CONNECT magazine is a forum for promoting the AZA's mission by highlighting zoo and aquarium trends, industry initiatives, conservation efforts and member achievements. The magazine runs three to five full length features every issue. Regular Departments include Significant Efforts in Conservation, Member News and Exhibits.
Write a Feature Article for CONNECT
Do you have a story idea that would make a good feature in CONNECT? If so, e-mail a synopsis of the idea to Tim Lewthwaite, AZA's Publications Manager. We are always looking for great story ideas from our members.
Length
If the story idea is accepted for publication, the article should be 1,000 words. Text can be submitted as a Microsoft Word document.
Deadline
Six weeks before publication (i.e. September 15 for the November issue).
Artwork
Please send color artwork with your submission. We accept artwork in electronic format. High res jpgs are preffered but we can work with any of the following formats.
Images
TIFF, JPEG or EPS with a resolution minimum of 300 dpi
Contribute to Significant Efforts in Conservation
While we still feature important births and hatchings, we need to know why this birth is important to conservation as a whole. Was this an SSP recommended birth? Is this the first birth of this animal in an institution or in North America?
Besides reporting on births and hatchings, this section also includes news about other conservation efforts. Are members of your organization working to restore a rare lily to its natural environment? Did a group of people from your organization recently travel somewhere to work on a conservation project? Are you involved in an innovative conservation project within the local community? Please let us know.
Contribute to Exhibits
When sending in announcements about your latest exhibit opening, include the following:
- opening date
- length of time to design/construct
- designer
- square footage
- cost and source of funding
Contribute to Member News
If you have any news from your organization that does not fit into the exhibits or conservation portion of the magazine, please send us that as well. Did your organization recently receive a grant? Win an award? If you've got something happening at your organization that you think is important and that other members should know, tell us!
