Job Status: Full-time

Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to coordinate, develop and implement fee-based programs camp programs in accordance with the Zoo mission and revenue goals.

JOB FACTORS:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Program Instructions and Development

•Develop, plan, and implement camps conducted during school vacation breaks and holidays, which includes the creation of new programs as well as the revision and expansion of existing programs.

•Research other fee based program possibilities.

•Assist in the development of a marketing action plan for increasing levels of program attendance and revenue.

•Purchase and prepare program materials and supplies.

•Teach all education and school & family programs as needed to maintain a specific profit margin for programs.

•Develop and prepare pre and post-program materials for participants (registration packet, activities, animal information, etc.).

•Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission and Values statement.

•Any other miscellaneous projects/assignment assigned by Zoo Atlanta’s Education management team.

Supervision

•Hire, train, schedule and supervise program instructors, interns, and volunteers.

•Monitor the performance of program staff and volunteers.

•Coordinate the evaluation and assessment of programs.

•Revise programs as needed.

Additional Duties

•Assist Manager of School and Family Programs with preparation of the budget.

•Operate within the approved budget and pursue cost-saving ideas.

•Monitor registration and accounting records for programs.

•Prepare monthly status reports of programs.

•Assist with clerical duties including contacting program participants, answering phones, registering programs, and preparing instructor payroll.

•Serve as backup instructor for all other education programs.

•Participate in events to market education programs.

•Perform duties of other education positions as needed.

•Perform animal encounters as a certified animal handler.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge:

•Experience instructing children in a formal or informal setting

•1 – 2 years of management or supervisory experience

•Care and concern for wildlife, children, and education

•Willingness to handle and work with animals, including snakes and other reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and invertebrates.

Special skills and abilities:

•Customer service skills

•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

•Ability to pass background check

•Zoo Atlanta is open to the public 363 days out of the year, therefore, all positions at Zoo Atlanta may require employees to work some weekends, holidays and evenings.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in educations, zoology, biology, psychology, or related field

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

NAI and/or State Environment Education Certification preferred

Driving Requirements:

•Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

•Must be able to repeatedly lift and/or push 50 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be available to work on occasional weekends, evenings, and holidays. Peak work periods: (School breaks: Winter, Spring and Summer vacation). May be expected to work outside more than 50% of the time - must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
