Applications are being accepted for a Vet-Tech Internship position beginning on January 12th, 2010, at Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation.
Established in 1977, Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation receives over 6,000 wild animals per year for rehabilitation and release as well as providing permanent sanctuary for 600 resident non-releasable indigenous wildlife, exotic wildlife (large mammals, primates, reptiles and birds) and farm animals. Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation is located on 187 acres in beautiful Texas Hill Country, near Austin and San Antonio.
Interns will learn basic medical and diagnostic skills, examine animals, administer medication, assist on surgeries and medical procedures, provide basic husbandry care for a diverse range of animal species, rescue and transport animals, and perform administrative duties. This is an excellent opportunity to learn hands-on about captive, free-ranging, and urban wildlife with an emphasis on humane ethics and solutions.
Veterinary technician internships require a 1-year commitment at 50 hours minimum per week. The veterinary staff works long hours, and you will be required to work along with the vet staff (this may include on call hours). This position requires physical labor (must be able to lift 50 pounds), ability to work in all types of outdoor conditions and to handle a demanding workload and long hours. Applicants should have received a Bachelors Degree in an animal related field, be preparing for vet or vet tech school, possess a strong personal work ethic and a high level of personal integrity. Applicant should be self-motivated and must be able to work as a team member as well being able to work independently. Organizational skills and ability to efficiently multi-task is a must. Rabies pre-exposure vaccinations are required. Good driving record and ability to drive manual transmission vehicles also necessary.
Compensation includes housing and a $100/month stipend.
