This is a full time hands-on managerial position for an experienced avian trainer/educator to coordinate on-site educational programs and interactives using live birds to create visitor appreciation of our living collection. Supervised by our Director of Education with oversight by our Curator, this position is responsible for program bird collection care, staff training and supervision, and the development of experiences geared to school groups, general visitors and special events. A detailed position description is available upon request.Position requirements include a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an approved college or university with a major in Zoology, Psychology or related field and demonstrated skill in the training and care of birds. A minimum of three years experience in an AZA accredited facility as an animal trainer in a public show setting and a year or more of supervisory experience preferred. This is a full-time position with benefits; salary range is between $28,000 – $34,000 per year depending upon qualifications and experience.Tracy Aviary is owned by the City of Salt Lake and managed by a non-profit board of directors. The Aviary recently received a $19.6 million bond for development and is currently pursuing an aggressive program of improvements and implementation of a new master plan.
