The Good Zoo at Oglebay is inviting applications from college juniors, seniors, or graduate students majoring in animal sciences, biology, zoology, and wildlife and fisheries management for zoo conservation program internship positions for the summer of 2010. The Good Zoo at Oglebay is the only Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) -accredited zoological institution in West Virginia, and is home to over 500 animals from nearly 100 species. Students that participate in this internship program will be exposed to several field research programs in which the zoo actively participates. Field activities will include surveillance and monitoring of populations of the Eastern hellbender salamander, surveillance of the amphibian chytrid fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) in West Virginia, and several other projects in which the zoo is involved. These internship positions are 360-hour unpaid internships to provide applicants with valuable experience with zoo conservation programs. Free housing is available to students residing greater than 50 miles from the Wheeling area.
