Edward H. Bean Award Recipients
The Association established the Edward H. Bean Awards in September 1956. Robert Bean, then Director of Chicago's Brookfield Zoo, offered the service of his society in sponsoring the initial award. The awards were named in honor of Edward H. Bean, the first Director of the Brookfield Zoo, thus a fitting tribute to this great man. The first award was presented at the Annual Conference in 1957 for the birth of "Colo," the world-famous, gorilla born at the Columbus Zoological Gardens. She was born in 1956.
Listed below are the Bean Award recipients.
